The middle age

“I have just finished reading the 6 pages of your well written and informative "How life cycles affect career and impact your retirement planning", with all the possibilities. Very true to its meaning and experiences described, I am sure everyone who is reading it has a part in it.

Either those just started a month work, already "rotting" or blooming in the company and industry. I plan to forward the attachment for my staff knowledge and I think they can learn a lot only by digesting the 6 pages.

Great job! Thank you. ~AH~

talks about the midlife adult…..

The middle age, or midlife stage of adulthood (between the ages of 40 and 50) is a challenging period. People at this stage would be hitting the halfway point of their lifespan, and may start becoming mentally bored and physically tired with their career and life. Often, they are said to be going through a ‘midlife crisis.’

What is a Midlife Crisis?
Adults experience cyclical periods of stability and transition throughout life. A  "midlife crisis" is a transition period of facing crossroads in your life journey, where you feel stagnated in your personal life development, resulting in feelings of frustration and boredom with life.

This frustration may stem from you suddenly realising that you have lived half of your life span (say you are in your 40s) and you have another good 10 or 20 years more to make your money for your retirement and yet, you feel that you are going nowhere in terms of financial success, career or life achievement.

Meanwhile, you are aging biologically, which requires you to start paying more attention to your health. Your energy levels begin to drop, and hormonal changes such as menopause or andropause (male menopause) start to creep in, affecting your mood, self- esteem, self-worth and self-motivation.

You may also be facing family challenges like dealing with adolescent children who increasingly need your attention, or a strained relationship with your spouse due to  lack of communication or not spending quality time together. Or perhaps you have aging parents (or parents-in-law) who need your time and financial support.

How Does a Midlife Crisis Affect Your Career?
As a result of a ‘midlife crisis,’ you may feel bored, frustrated and not motivated with your current job or career. At the same time however, you feel scared and confused about making a career change and doing something different.

There is a personal struggle between a personal commitment to your current job and family, and wanting to move forward in life with an ideal career choice that provides happiness, financial security and fulfils your life mission, ie making life meaningful for you. And more often than not, the increasing cost of living in this World of Consumerism may force you to continue working in an unfulfilling but well-paying job.

It is important to have better control of your life purpose with the appropriate personal financial planning, and having enough money to support your lifestyle will help you “pull-through” this transition period.

Find out how others coped in a similar predicament, learn from their experiences and in the process, strengthen your financial life.
